This weekend, Oxnard will be hosting the 30th Annual California Strawberry Festival at Strawberry Meadows of College Park. There will be plenty of fresh strawberries as well as strawberry-inspired food and drinks like strawberry pizza, deep-fried strawberries, and strawberry beer. The event features a full schedule of live entertainment and vendors selling arts and crafts as well. Be sure to sign up for the strawberry pie eating contest or the strawberry tart toss for some competitive fun! Check the website for tickets ($12), parking, and directions.

Looking for something fun and random to do on a Sunday afternoon? Well, head to the beach and bring a kite! Redondo Beach Pier is hosting their 39th Annual Festival of the Kite from noon to 5 PM. Participants and competitors will set up their kites and take to the skies, with prizes awarded to the highest flying kite, best handmade kite, and youngest kite flyer. There will also be live entertainment and contests and fun for the whole family!

Bring in the Lunar New Year with some style in the beautiful City of Roses, Pasadena. The Pacific Asia Museum announces its third Annual Lunar New Year Festival held on Saturday, February 2nd from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This Year of the Snake celebrates the Lunar New Year with multicultural on-stage performances, food trucks and traditional art form demonstrations. If that isn’t enough excitement, get ready for Pacific Asia Museum’s encore performance of last year’s successful “Happy Chinese New Year – Jiangsu Cultural Week” featuring visiting artists from China. Let the fireworks begin!

Food trucks galore this Saturday at the Santa Anita Park! KROQ is hosting a massive food truck festival on September 29th from 11AM – 5PM. Pay $5 for general admission or go VIP status and pay $20 for exclusive backstage access, trackside seating with table, and a private cash bar (No Lines!!). Try famous trucks like The Grilled Cheese Truck, Paradise Cookie, and Lobsta Truck. Plus, watch and wager as the horses race around you while listening to live music by Lose Control. If you missed the big food and wine festival, The Taste, on Labor Day Weekend, head down to Newport Beach this coming weekend for their own take on food, wine, and music. The Taste of Newport Festival features delicious bites from over 30 local restaurants and wines from 15 wineries as well as cooking demos in the culinary expo. Many cuisines will be represented here; just a few of the offerings will be duck confit sliders, chicken and brown rice risotto, and miso-marinated rib eye steak. Attendees pay admission of $22, which includes a concert, and then purchase e-cards to buy food and beverages, which works like a gift card. Upcoming pop/soul/rock artist Andy Grammer takes the stage on Friday, and Blondie and Devo on Saturday. Be sure to head to the website for the full menus and to purchase tickets.

Labor Day is just around the corner, but if you haven’t made plans yet, there are plenty of events going on right here in LA! Head out to Malibu this weekend for a chili cook-off hosted by Kiwanis International. The carnival and fair is open from Friday through Monday, but we recommend going Saturday or Sunday, when they will be holding the chili cook-off from 11 AM to 6 PM. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online and picked up at will call. The cost of food depends on each vendor, but there will be plenty of chili to go around with chili samples available for $1 each, so be sure to try them all! In addition to the carnival, fair, and chili, there will be a silent auction to benefit the Kiwanis Club of Malibu.

Hopefully you had a chance to attend one of the Hester Street Fair events this summer, but if you didn’t, don’t worry because there is one more event this Saturday, August 25th! The final event bids farewell to summer with a FREE music festival featuring indie bands and DJs from the Mexican Summer record label and special guest MC and DJ Andrew W.K. 100 arts and crafts vendors will be on site for you to browse as you listen to the live music. There will be plenty of food and drinks including a cocktail and craft beer garden, so come out to Hollywood Blvd. and Argyle Ave., right next to the W Hotel Hollywood, and enjoy some great shopping and music!
